4 June 2010: We are just about finished with our Spring Cleaning. We have found several items that classify as just one or 2 of this and a couple of that. You know those little odd balls that have no where to go. So I started a This & That Page. You can find it in the Clearance Store. I have a box and a half of items to add to that page. I'll add them a bit at a time as I have time. So you might want to check that page every so often to see what's listed. I add the newest items to the top. Then I move the sold out items to the bottom. Make sure you check the What's on Sale Page. I've featured a few more items there. All of our Anchor Pearl Cottons are on sale for $0.99. We are closing them out so we are limited to stock on hand. We are overstocked on several of the Patons Astra colors. So we have a bag sale going on for that line, Patons Astra Overstock Sale. And then while Spring Cleaning we came across a couple of boxes of Royale / Aunt Lydia's Crochet Cottons. So I put a page back up for that and we are clearing that out too. We have had to make a very difficult decision. We are once again looking at the need to raise prices. I do not want to do that though. I hate raising the prices. Since I started this business in 1995 my goal has always been to offer descent quality yarns at reasonable prices. I have always kept my prices 20% - 30% below suggested retail. And I shop for clearance and sales yarns so I can pass the savings on. But our cost of everything keeps going up. UPS has again raised their fuel service charge. Not their rates, but the additional fee they charge for deliveries that cost more than average. Most deliveries now have fuel service charges on them. Utilities are going up. Supplies to run the business have gone up. We are in the same position as all of you. Basically all of our daily operating expenses have gone up and are still on the rise. But we have to watch how much we discount our products because we also offer the Wholesale / Bulk Order Discount. So we can only discount the prices so much to leave room for the possibility of a further discount. It has made the whole pricing thing quite a mess actually. So, we have decided that as of July 1st the Wholesale / Bulk Order Discount Department will close. We will no longer offer that additional discount. By doing this we will be able to keep our prices where they are and hopefully even lower a few. We have to think of the majority. Some of our best customers are those that can not afford to order in bulk. Yet they place a sizable order every month. Raising the prices would only hurt them. And while every order is important. We do have to keep our priorities in line. We have to cater to the majority. And the majority of our customers right now do not use the Wholesale / Bulk Order Discount Department . Six months to a year ago was a different story, but right now the majority of our customers shop our retail. We thank all of you for your continued patronage!! We know that without all of you we would not have a business!! 16 May 2010: The NEW COLORS are in!!! Bernat, Lily & Patons have released some new colors and we have most of them available. And we also have the new Bernat Baby Cakes Yarn in!! It's a cotton / acrylic blend!! What fun!! It seems like it is going to be a really nice yarn to work with. Bernat has new colors in Bernat Softee Chunky, Bernat Satin, Bernat Baby Coordinates, Bernat Baby Jacquards There are new colors in the regular Lily Sugar'n Cream line as well as the Stripes and Twists Patons has new colors in Patons Grace, Patons Stretch Socks, Patons Kroy Socks and there are several new colors in the Patons Classic Merino Wool As always we thank you for your continued patronage!! 14 April 2010: Greetings from the Midwest!! I hope things are greening up where you live. I know they are here!! It's nice to see everything budding after such a cold winter. It's been a bit wet and rainy, but that's better than the snow!! We've moved a few things around again. We put up an area just for COTTON!! I've noticed there are several of you that share the same passion that I do for cotton yarn and crochet thread. So I gave the cotton yarns and threads their own little area called the Cotton Corner. So now instead of looking all over the website to find your favorite yarn it's all in one location!! We moved the Gift Shop out to it's own location with it's own shopping cart. Usually my gift shop customers do not purchase the yarns. This will save a bit of shipping cost for the gift shop customers too. The gift items are usually not large and bulky like the yarns so they generally cost less to ship. But of course if you are purchasing both yarn and gifts we will gladly combine the orders. We are not completely finished with the gift shop so please excuse our mess until we get the task completed. Then one final note. We here at Yarn & Thread by Lisa, are making an effort to find and use more U.S. made products. As you look around the website watch for the U.S. flag on product pages. That depicts a U.S. made product. You can also keep an eye on the Made in the America Page. That page has a listing of all of the U.S. made products that we carry. We will continue to watch for and carry more U.S. made products as we find them. Or at least products from U.S. companies. Our hope of course is that in time more of the U.S. companies will bring their products back here to be made. By using U.S. made products we keep our money working here in the U.S. Who knows, maybe the job you save will be your own!! This is just our little effort to help the U.S. economy. 22 March 2010: Spring has sprung!!.......well, at least that's what the calendar says. I'm sure that the spring weather will be here before we know it though. So, that means that it's time for my favorite fiber...COTTON!!! If we start now we can have a new cotton top for our summer wardrobe?!?! I know you can probably whip one up faster. I never seem to have as much time to knit or crochet as I would like though. But since making it is almost as fun as wearing it the time it takes is not too big of an issue. Well, let's get you up to date on the latest. First, What's on Sale?? Since the cotton season is right around the corner I put the Bernat Handicrafter Economy Skeins and the Lily Sugar'n Cream on sale. Now once in awhile we have a bit of trouble getting some of the colors in so I've listed them as limited to stock on hand. I'll reorder and get more colors in if I can. But in case I have trouble getting them in I will be limited to stock on hand. Just wanted to warn you in advance. And I decided to leave the Bernat Boa on Sale for now. I'll keep that going for as long as I can. Another update, I took the Virtual Sidewalk Sale down. I was receiving so many complaints about the separate shopping carts and then I would have to explain that I would combine the shipping. I addressed this on the homepage of the Virtual Sidewalk Sale. But lets be honest if you have never shopped with me can you be sure I will combine the shipping?? So I understand completely, but it became very time consuming. The overstocked items I returned to their regular listing here. The remaining yarns I moved them to the Clearance Store and adjusted the prices a bit to accommodate the flat rate shipping. So now everything goes into one shopping cart and you only have to go through checkout once!! There have been several other changes. I just have not had time to post them here. And of course if I do not post them when I make them I tend to forget. You all have kept us very busy here!! Thank you!! But you may want to take a minute to browse around and take a look at your favorite yarn or department to see if there are any new items. Hopefully I will be able to get back to doing monthly post in very short order!! I wish all of you a wonderful beginning of spring!! Thank you all for your continued patronage!! 23 Dec 2009: I hope all of you are enjoying this holiday season. Don't forget to take time to relax and enjoy!! We want to wish all of you a very Blessed & Happy New Year too!! Just a quick update on some new items.
One of the great things about these products....they are all Made in the USA. For other products that we carry that are made in the USA please see our Made in America page. Make sure you take a look at the What's on Sale page. Thank you all for your continued patronage!! 4 Nov 2009: It's hard to believe that summer is gone and November is already here. Not to mention the holidays are right around the corner!! We have been so busy this summer I have not even had time to post to this page any new information. So lets see if I can bring you up to date!! We had enough of you requesting the Caron Simple Soft and the Caron Pounder that we have picked those line up. Several of the Bernat lines have new colors; Bernat Satin, Bernat Softee Baby, Bernat Softee Chunky and the Bernat Super Value. And there are some new Lily Sugar'n Cream colors. Now for some really exciting news!! We got our hands on some more Bernat Cool Crochet!! I'm not sure if it was a return from one of the larger stores or if they had more in their warehouse. It really doesn't matter. But earlier this year when I was asking for more there was none available. Well, my sales rep let me know last month that there was some in stock. Of course I jumped on it and it just arrived yesterday!! You can find it located in our Virtual Sidewalk Sale. I purchased all available colors and I will continue to order it in as long as it is available. Get it while it's here though, I'm not sure how long it will last. We've added a new page to our web site called Made in America. With the economy wavering the way it has been we are doing our best to purchase products that are made in the U.S.A. It has proved to be quite a challenge!! Even Red Heart has moved all of their yarns overseas. None of their yarns are made here anymore. They are all imported. As we find more U.S. made products we will add to that page though.
